Circus Extreme is currently performing in the city until April 12. The group merges modern and contemporary circus styles with jaw-dropping stunts, classic clowning, and a powerful live rock band.

And while in the city, Aerial Dance Academy got the chance to perform alongside Circus Extreme during a workshop.

Michael McWilliam, founder of the academy, said: “We have created a community where adults can challenge themselves in a relaxed, social environment, and children can grow in confidence while developing coordination, resilience and creativity. We are grateful to Circus Extreme for providing us with this unique opportunity.”

Aerial Dance Academy is a friendly, welcoming aerial and circus studio based in Portsmouth, where people of all ages can build strength and confidence in the air.

The Academy offers a range of classes from complete beginners through to more advanced students, including aerial hoop, silks, sling, trapeze, acro and yoga.

“Whether it is someone’s first time stepping into the studio or they are working towards performance or competition, our classes are designed to feel supportive, encouraging and enjoyable," Michael said

“At ADA, we genuinely believe aerial is for everyone. We have created a community where adults can challenge themselves in a relaxed, social environment, and children can grow in confidence while developing coordination, resilience and creativity.

“Alongside our weekly classes, we also run workshops, performance opportunities and are growing a competition team for those who want to take things further so this is a great opportunity for aspiring artists to take flight in an actual circus Big Top.”
