Step into a spooktacular world of lights and frights at a hair-raising display which has been created by a mental health advocate to raise money for charity.
Organised by 25-year-old Liam McErlean, an Ireland Way property has once again been transformed into a house of horrors that has had families captivated by its impressive light display.
The Halloween display launched last year after Liam overcame a period of serious mental health struggles, during which he attempted to take his own life twice in 2024. Having received vital support from friends, family and mental health charities, the father-of-one was determined to turn his experience into something positive by raising money to help others facing similar challenges.
Liam told The News: “Looking back at where I was in 2024, I can’t even put into words how I feel. I won my battle with mental health and I am a survivor but unfortunately a lot of men can’t say the same so I am doing this for them and what they have gone through and hopefully we can make a difference.
“In terms of the lights, it is always an anxious feeling. Even when they are on I’m anxious and looking for things that can be better but seeing the joy it creates for people, and having families say this is going to become a yearly tradition is so nice. As a father myself, it feels great to know people want to come down and support us.”
The display officially launched on Saturday, October 17 and it went down a treat with all that turned out for the occasion. The light show will take place every night from October 23 until October 31, with Halloween night featuring free popcorn, photo opportunities, displays and a tombolo.
He added: “We have a lot of new stuff this year which I am very excited to show everyone. I started it to keep my mind busy after going through my own mental health struggles - but I also wanted to show that although I was in a dark place there is a light at the end of the tunnel and this is my way of showing it.”
