Gosport dad given 'weeks to live' will spend final days with his beloved family

A FATHER of five has been given just weeks left to live after being diagnosed with a rapidly spreading form of cancer.

Jutt Compton, 41, from Gosport, has a squamous cell carcinoma which has left him blind in his left eye.

Last week, he found out that the cancer has progressed and spread, with doctors telling him that he has weeks to a couple of months left to live.

With Jutt not working and his wife Sammie on unpaid leave due to coronavirus, a fundraiser has been started by a family friend to help cover funeral costs.

So far, more than £2,800 has been raised for the family.

Sammie, who first met Jutt when she was 12 years old, has spoken about how the family is faring in the face of a tragedy.

The 29-year-old said: ‘The kids amaze me every day – they ask plenty of questions but we don’t hold anything back from them.

‘We do break down sometimes but we do that together, as a family; they’re all so strong.

‘But we’re also having lots of laughs and cuddles, keeping each others spirits up.’

The fundraiser itself was set up by Claire Harris, Sammie’s best friend.

She said: ‘I wanted to do it to take the stress of it away from them.

‘Times are tough but Jutt deserves a beautiful send-off – and we've had donations from all over.

‘It means they can spend the next few weeks together without that added problem hanging over their heads.’

Jutt was first diagnosed five years ago, with the illness rearing its ugly head again last year.

Sammie and the family have been trying to stay positive, despite everything that’s going on.

What’s more, the coronavirus outbreak means they are all able to stay together without having to leave for work or school

She said: ‘The support has absolutely blown us away.

‘A thank you to the people who have donated will never be enough – it’s so humbling.

‘The days are all going so fast at the moment, but at least we’ve got each other.’
