Four houses are damaged in Wellow Close blaze in Leigh Park say firefighters
FIREFIGHTERS say that four houses have been damaged in a Leigh Park blaze this afternoon – but that they are not sure what started the fire.
Crews were called just after 4pm to Wellow Close, where a fire spread from one home across the roofs of four terraced houses.
Nev Lewendow, a duty officer based at Portchester Fire Station, said: ‘A block of four houses within a terrace have been damaged, with the fire starting in number 10 and spreading to both sides.

‘All have suffered fire or smoke damage.
‘Two are quite badly damaged.
‘Most of the damage is in the loft spaces, but sometimes water can get through the ceiling.
‘Crews have been working very hard externally using a ladder platform to combat the fire.
‘We had some crew members use breathing apparatus to go inside to check for hot spots and get some medication that was left inside a property.
‘It’s very hard to tell what started the fire.
‘A fire investigation officer is en route. The main thing is that the fire hasn’t spread to another block.’
