Fireworks display in Portsmouth tonight is scheduled to welcome new Brittany Ferries vessel Galicia

A FIREWORK display will be taking place in Portsmouth this evening.

A notice has been issued by the Queen's Harbour Master Portsmouth for a pyrotechnic display at 7pm today.

The display, which will last for roughly five minutes, is to welcome the new Brittany Ferries vessel Galicia, named after the region of Spain she will take passengers to.

The ship made her first visit to Portsmouth in October, but is now officially part of the fleet.

She will do two round trips to and from the Cantabrian coastline each week, and is the first new vessel for Brittany Ferries since 2009.

As the ferry comes into Portsmouth International Port, the fireworks display will begin from a barge near Flathouse Quay.

Due to the display, an exclusion zone has been set up in the area.
