Fire in a barn in Havant believed to have been started 'deliberately'

A FIRE in a barn in Havant saw three fire crews on the scene in the early hours of this morning.

Crews from Havant, Emsworth, and Cosham fire stations attended the blaze in the barn in Southleigh Road at 4am.

Firefighters were on the scene for less than an hour, and they believe the fire was started deliberately.

Watch manager Jim Tickner said: ‘There was no sign of anyone living there, but it was obviously started on purpose, using bits of rubbish and wood.

‘It was clear there wasn’t an attempt to set the barn on fire.

‘It looks like it was started to keep someone warm.’

The brick farmyard barn did not suffer extensive damage, according to the firefighter.
