Fareham's Ferneham Hall redevelopment takes another step forward

OLD theatres and a carbon-neutral dream have inspired the new-look plans for Ferneham Hall.

A planning application has been formally submitted for the redevelopment of Ferneham Hall in Fareham.

Proposals from architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios include a grey, white and red brick exterior, with a large sign on the side and a theatre marquee.

The building apparently aims to mark both Fareham’s history of producing red bricks and complement existing Georgian architecture in the town centre.

The new entrance will face Osborne Road, rather than the previous east and south-facing entrances, with green technologies inside to help the council on the road to becoming carbon neutral.

The technology includes air-source heat pumps, solar panels and LED lighting.

Councillor Sue Bell, executive member for leisure and community at Fareham Borough Council, is now urging residents to have their say on the planning application.

Cllr Bell said: ‘This is a really exciting project for Fareham.

‘I’d encourage residents to have a look at the designs online and submit their comments so that we can make sure we deliver a venue that can be enjoyed by everyone.’
