“Terrible” huge piles of black bags were dumped on the pavement on West Street outside Right Room and India Cottage, as reported on Friday.

The horrendous “mess” had littered the space for three months resulting in Fareham Borough Council’s environmental health team being contacted by an angry resident. Following publication of the article on Friday it was reported the mess was then hastily removed.

A spokesperson for the council said a warning had been issued to those responsible - with them facing a fine if it was not removed by Tuesday.

“This waste has been generated by renovation work happening on West Street,” the spokesperson said. “Our enforcement officers have been working with the owner of the waste to ensure it is removed.

“A deadline for removal was set for Tuesday at which point penalties would have been incurred if not removed.”

The spokesperson added it was “great those responsible have listened to the enforcement team and removed it ahead of the deadline”.

The angry resident previously said: “The rubbish has been outside Right Room and next to Indian Cottage. This mess has not been moved for three months.

“The waste is outside a food establishment so I spoke with environmental health which said they would visit - this was three weeks ago. It’s a terrible eyesore.”
