The sewer pipe, known as a rising main, burst on Portsmouth Road, close to the Queens Road pumping station on Friday around 5pm.

Updating residents, Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage previously said: “(Southern Water) has notified the Environment Agency, and teams are on site working to contain the spill and protect the local environment.

“Traffic management has been in place overnight, with tankers brought in to manage flows while repair work gets underway.

“Residents can continue to use their facilities as normal, and efforts are being made to keep noise and disruption to a minimum. Further updates are expected over the weekend.”

An Environment Agency spokesperson, giving an update, has now said: “Officers have been to site to check on the situation and while there appears to be no significant environmental impact, we are monitoring the incident.”
