Emsworth man on mission to cycle 256 miles in 24 hours for air ambulance
Cycle challenge will help fund emergency missions
Ben Cloud is on a mission of a lifetime as he prepares for a gruelling challenge to cycle 256 miles around Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in a day.
Ben, owner at Millstream Productions in Emsworth, is hoping to raise £10,500 for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance after being inspired by the life-saving crew when filming them.
Ben is aiming to complete his challenge within 24 hours when he starts his ride on Thursday 2 July. If he achieves his target, the money raised would be enough to fund three emergency missions.
Millstream is offering a free promotional video for companies that donate £1,000 and a complimentary photoshoot for donations of £500.
The business owner only started cycling six years ago when his colleague suggested a small ride after work. He bought a bike and has since become passionate about getting people active and enjoying the countryside.
Ben said: “I felt so privileged to spend two days flying with the air ambulance filming the crew who attended five missions. They really are there for all of us, bringing critical care and expertise when we need it the most.
“I’m passionate about cycling and spend a lot of time riding over the hills of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and knowing that they are there provides real comfort. What isn’t comforting, however, is this challenge. My longest ride to date is 130 miles – only half of this huge distance. It’s certainly going to push me to my limits, but I know with the support of Hampshire residents and the business community I will do it.”
Writing on Just Giving, he added: “Why am I doing this? I spent two days inside the aircraft recently, following the crew from the start of their shift to the end. What unfolded over that 10 hours will never leave me. I saw first hand the dedication and urgency with which the crew operates for ordinary people like you and me.
“I am asking you to join me in this cause. Either through donations, sharing this challenge with your network, or even joining some (or all) of the ride alongside me. Every mile I pedal matters; every donation makes a difference. Together, we can keep the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance flying and saving lives.”
