Date set for Great South Run 2021 in Portsmouth
ORGANISERS have announced a date for the proposed return of the Great South Run.
The event, which sees runners complete a 10-mile course around Southsea, was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Although the country is in lockdown, The Great Run Company is optimistic that this year’s event will be able to go ahead.

Each year, thousands of people take part, with some fighting for personal bests, while others raise money for charities.
The event is on Sunday, October 17, with entries due to open soon.
To prepare runners for the big day, organisers have set up online challenges to complete.
One, called Run Away From 2020, invites people to complete 21 activities in January.

Another, the Great Run Solo Distance Challenge, is designed to keep you racking up the miles over a seven or 28 day period, selecting a goal of up to 150km.
In 2019, staff from The News took part in the Great South Run, raising money for Rowans Hospice.
This year, organisers have set a mantra of ‘Together We Run’ as the theme for all Great Runs across the country.
They say that signing up for the Great South Run is a great way for people to keep to their new year resolutions, setting a realistic goal for what can be achieved.
