Cosham family decorate street in preparation for VE Day anniversary
A COSHAM family have been doing their bit to ensure residents on their street are able to commemorate the anniversary of VE Day amidst the national chaos caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Natalie Rodgers along with husband Graham and their two children, Fabian and Oscar, both 12, have spent the last two nights decorating Hilary Avenue with Union Jack flags and homemade bunting. The family will also be flying their own original VE Day flag passed on to Graham from his grandmother.
The mark the occasion, residents can take part in a number of street games including bingo and a pub style quiz. Professional singer, Miranda Williamson, who lives on the street, will be transporting her neighbours back to the 1940’s with renditions of wartime classic songs.
Natalie said: ‘I think such events are important on two levels. Firstly, it’s vital we remember the veterans who ensured we had a VE Day, but at this difficult time it’s also important for communities to have something to celebrate.
‘The pandemic has certainly seen people coming together through community spirit.’
