Coronavirus: Health secretary has been informed of suspected outbreak, says Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt

The health secretary has been informed of the suspected coronavirus outbreak at a Portsmouth medical surgery in North End.

Kingston Crescent Surgery, in North End, closed early to undergo ‘a deep cleaning’ after a suspected case of coronavirus, which has infected more than 65,000 people and killed more than 1,300 worldwide.

Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt told The News that she had informed the health secretary, Matt Hancock, of the situation.

Patient appointments are being moved to other surgeries, according to the MP.

Ms Mordaunt said residents needed to ‘focus on what we can each do to reduce risk.’

She said: ‘People should follow the advice given by the surgery, NHS and public health.

‘Patient appointments are being moved to other surgeries and if people have concerns about themselves they should stay home and phone 111.

‘By following these instructions we will reduce the risks of virus spreading. I know some will be worried but we all need to focus on what we can each do to reduce risk.’
