Christmas tree collections on offer to Portsmouth residents to raise money for children's charity, George’s Rockstars, returns

Portsmouth residents will have the chance book a Christmas tree collection all while helping to support a local children’s charity.

It is the sixth year of the charity Christmas tree collection service which sees Piper Tree Services collect real trees in return for a donation to George’s Rockstars, a children’s music therapy charity. Last year saw 670 trees collected throughout Portsmouth and £15,000 raised with the organisers are hoping to beat that this year.

George’s Rockstars was founded in memory of a 6-year old Portsmouth boy, George, who battled leukaemia from just 22-months old. He spent a lot of time at Queen Alexandra Hospital during his illness with his family describing it as his “second home”.

Amy, George’s mum and charity co-founder, said: “Queen Alexandra Hospital was such a huge part of George’s life that it became part of our family’s everyday world. This event gives Portsmouth residents a simple way to support children in their own community who are currently facing frequent and lengthy hospital stays.”

The charity provides live music therapy to children facing serious illness, disability and mental health crises, including children being treated at local hospitals.

Residents in Portsmouth are able to book a tree collection online via https://georgesrockstars.beaconforms.com/form/df8f8184.

Once collected they are then asked to make a donation to the Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/christmastreecollection26.

All proceeds from the Christmas Tree Collection will go directly towards funding music therapy sessions across hospitals in Hampshire, Sussex and Dorset.

Due to the popularity of the vent over previous years, to help with demand, tool and plant hire firm Exsel Plant, based in Curdridge, has lent an additional chipper for processing the trees.
