Car rolls into the sea as owner left 'understandably shaken' following rescue operation

An unoccupied vehicle rolled into the sea overnight - prompting multiple services to launch a rescue operation.

On the evening of Wednesday, April 1, a 4x4 vehicle ended up rolling into the water off Stokes Bay in Gosport.

The car was unoccupied, but still needed to be recovered, with HM Coastguard contacting the Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (Gafirs) for assistance.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “HM Coastguard initially contacted the crew at 8.26pm to discuss an incident, before pagers were activated shortly after. The team were tasked to assist with a vehicle that had rolled, unoccupied, into the sea.

“Thankfully, the owner was safe, although understandably shaken by the ordeal. Gafirs remained on scene to assist until the arrival of the local fire brigade and Boarhunt team, when the incident was handed over.”

It has not been confirmed if the car ended up in the sea due to a mechanical failure or human error.
