Boat explodes and catches fire - two people hospitalised as emergency services rush to Lymington incident

The incident, which took place shortly before 12.44pm on Tuesday, June 11, was attended by the Air Ambulance, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, ambulance crews, a HART rescue team, and HM Coastguard. The boat exploded in Lymington Yacht Haven, Lymington - and the cause is still being established.

A Lymington Lifeboat Station spokesperson said: “Once on scene, it was established there were two casualties, one with significant burn injuries to his face, hands, and legs. The lifeboat crew were first on scene and updated HM Coastguard crew on the status of the two casualties. Lifeboat crew administered emergency first aid to both victims, cooling and wrapping burns along with administering a nebuliser to negate any risk of inhalation burns. The Air Ambulance, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, ambulance crews, the HART rescue team, and HM Coastguard were in attendance. The casualties were handed over to the care of paramedics and air ambulance doctors for further treatment.”

Lifeboat crewman James Douch added: ‘All the rescue services and marina staff worked together seamlessly to administer vital casualty care. We wish the casualties a speedy recovery.’
