The book, published by Amberley, will be released on May 15 costing £15.99 and is his third book in the series after releasing books on Bridlington and Scarborough.

Richard said: “This is one of a series of books that show the history and interesting aspects of towns and cities around the UK that use the letters of the alphabet to highlight each subject. This will be my third A-Z book in this series, my other two being Bridlington and Scarborough.

“The journey to writing this book has led me to learn a lot about Gosport that I never knew and how different areas have some incredible hidden history as well as some very interesting people who both lived and died right here.

“The book talks about a theatre on the High Street, a woman who sold her land to become an ammunition store, an art-deco tower and a host of other fascinating facts and stories.”

The book can be purchased at any book shop and online. For those interested, there will also be a launch event at The Book Shop at Lee-on-the-Solent on 5 June where Richard will give a talk on the book and the history of the town. The event is ticket-only so people are being advised to book early.

Richard added: “As those of you who already know me, I have spent my life looking into historical events, interesting places and forgotten disasters and have written books on those that have sparked my interest.

“I have also had 19 memorial plaques placed around the UK for those that are now allowing people to remember the victims of these events. Some of my previous work includes a memorial and book to the Moorgate rail disaster in London, a plaque and book to the Pacific Glory explosion off the Isle of Wight and more recently publishing the book Shipwrecks of the Solent which sold out within days.”
