A van fire near the M27 has sparked fears of another major blaze in Hampshire - as fire crews continue to battle the A31 inferno.

Southampton Roads posted: “An incident has occurred on M271 South bound and the road is currently under a lane restriction whilst emergency services attend. Please approach with caution and plan any journeys if using this route."

A picture was shared of the fire on The News’ Hampshire Traffic and Travel page which showed a blaze to the side of the road with large plumes of smoke pouring into the sky.

It follows the major lorry fire just miles away on the A31 near Ringwood which spread onto heathland and has led to the M27 being closed from junction 1 to the A338 in Ringwood.

One person said on the post: “Please, not another one.”

Another person said: “All the local fire brigades are still tackling the huge New Forest fire from yesterday - I hope to God this fire doesn't get a hold like the van fire that caused the huge one on A31.”

A third said: “Another one. They've not even finished getting the other under control yet.”

A fourth person added: “Oh goodness another one. Lets hope it can be contained before it spreads.”
