It is so easy to take it for granted, but it is a real privilege to live right next to the sea. With the sea on one side, and the countryside on the other, there are plenty of reasons why Portsmouth is just the perfect place to live and why we love our city so much.

With our fantastic waterside facilities, great historic importance and, of course, plenty of things to do, there are 101 reasons we could list for why our city is simply the best – but let’s start with these 15 first!

The stunning marina in the north of city is certainly something to be proud of, and a great destination we all love. With plenty of restaurants, some shops, regular family-based activates and a cinema to boot, Port Solent is a real gem to be enjoyed!

Portsmouth's involvement with D-Day is certainly something to be proud of, marking the turning point of the second world war. Portsmouth was the headquarters and main departure point for the military and naval units destined for Sword Beach on the Normandy coast, with troops leaving from the city, Gosport, Stokes Bay and other points from the South coast. Nearby Southwick House was also chosen as the headquarters for the Supreme Allied Commander, General Eisenhower.

When you live in Portsmouth the world really is your oyster, with fantastic travel links meaning a trip away could not be easier. With ferry links to France and Spain, a growing option of cruise destinations - as well it being s short hop to the Isle of Wight - the options are fantastic. There is also an airport a short drive down the M27.

The fantastic three-day Victorious Festival has something for all of the family and is certainly getting bigger and better every single year. And the added bonus for us local residents.... we don't need to camp to enjoy it and can sleep in our own beds. Bliss!
