100 meals sold in 10 minutes as Wetherspoons The Game helps to feed Portsmouth's homeless
100 meals were distributed to homeless shelters in Portsmouth on Monday night due to the generosity of a Facebook group’s members.
Chris Illman, from Fareham, used his Wetherspoons The Game Facebook group to get strangers to purchase meals from The John Jacques in Fratton to be given to the homeless. Having started the game in 2018, Chris now spends most of his time travelling the country using the game to feed homeless people.
Monday’s (December 8) was the latest of a number of Portsmouth games he has run for the homeless with meals selling out in a record time with 100 meals sold in 10 minutes.

Chris posted on the group yesterday: “Last night when we fed the homeless, the 100 meals were purchased in record time! All the food was taken around homeless hostels and people on the streets.
“Thanks to Billy and Emma from Hush that helped distribute the food! And a massive thank you to everyone who sent a meal!”
The game sees strangers post pictures of themselves in the Facebook group and giving their table number with strangers then purchasing food and drink for them. Over the past few years it has grown in popularity with the two groups Chris runs having over a million members.
It utilises a quirk in the Wetherspoons app which allows you to order from your phone anywhere and send it to any restaurant with a table number.
