One of Portsmouth’s most vibrant traditions exploded into life again this weekend.
The Paulsgrove and Wymering Carnival started in 1985 and always sees the community come out in force. This year, its 41st staging, was no different as giant animals paraded through the streets, along with colourful dancers, primary schools as well as Scout and church groups.
This year’s version was given an extra impetus by being tied in with the Portsmouth100 celebrations, which mark a century since Portsmouth was granted city status.
The route started at Victory Primary School, then followed Allaway Avenue until Washbrook Road, before turning back along Ludlow Road and ending up at the green on Hempsted Road, where there was a funfair, food stalls and entertainment.
Here are some pictures from the day, taken by photographer Chris Moorhouse.
