Painting almost complete at Hilsea Lido as contractors continue working round the clock to restore "beloved" pool

Contractors have been tirelessly working round the clock to get the Hilsea Lido near completion, with the pool almost fully painted.

With the end of 2025 in sight, the Portsmouth City Council has shared one last update about the regeneration of Hilsea Lido for the year.

Over the past few weeks, the contractors, Beard, have been focusing their attention on painting the pool blue - with the most recent update confirming the paint work is almost complete.

The team will continue to work over the Christmas and New Year period, with pool markings and finishing touches next on the to-do list at the lido.

“From a vast expanse of concrete and everything grey, to an almost finished pool that's looking great.”

Once complete, the £7.75m scheme, paid for by the Levelling Up Fund, will create new changing rooms, benches, tables, fountain and a fully functioning pool, as well as a sauna introduced by the new operators - Sea Lanes Brighton.

Hilsea Lido is expected to open next spring with a full programme of classes and events lined up.

More updates to follow.
