Objections raised over traveller encampment plan for land between Titchfield and Stubbington
Objections over plans to build a traveller encampment have flooded in.
Several people are against proposals to change the use of Chestnut Paddocks in Titchfield Road into a caravan site for a single traveller family. The plans were submitted to Fareham Borough Council at the beginning of March and have since been subject to a flurry of objections.
One objector branded it a “development beleaguered area” and said they would object to “any person of any class” submitting plans for the site.
“This development would be a further depletion of the once-large area available to wildlife, which has as much right as mankind to access,” they said.
“The applicant must file his request within an already built-up area, so as not to further deplete a beautiful landscape.”

Another resident said they “strongly object” to the proposals.
In a comment published on the application, they said: “We are concerned about the erosion of the open countryside that separates Stubbington and Titchfield. With substantial growth already planned in the area, protecting our countryside becomes increasingly important.”
Meanwhile, a fellow objector said: “We consider that this is further creeping change to the character of the Titchfield and Stubbington/Hill Head area.
“Fareham is already developing massively, and whilst the population is increasing, the number of schools, medical facilities, and public utilities such as sewage and water supplies are not keeping pace with the changes. Until these shortcomings have been addressed, there should be no further changes of land use.”
The plans state that two static caravans will be installed at the site if approval is granted. Photos on the planning application show that two caravans have already been installed on the land.
The land is between Stubbington and Titchfield. A decision on the plans will be made by the council on April 29.
