M27 traffic stopped after Ford Focus driver does a three-point turn on hard shoulder
A daft driver turned round on the M27 - leading police to shut the carriageway
A foolhardy motorway driver did a three-point turn on the hard shoulder of the M27 so he could go and help his brother, whose car had broken down.
Police revealed the stupid stunt in a Facebook post overnight - and said that they had to shut that side of the motorway in order to sort out the mess. A picture shows the offending car facing the traffic flow on the hard shoulder, bonnet to bonnet with another car, apparently for a jump start.
It was part of a busy afternoon for roads officers in the area, who said that good weather often leads to plenty of incidents.
They said: “Two car drivers were dealt with for driving without due care and attention, most notably the Focus driver who thought he would help his brother by turning around on the hard shoulder/lane one of the M27 resulting in us having to stop all traffic to get the vehicle moved.”

Other offences they spotted in and around Portsmouth in their unmarked car included bikers on Hayling Island. Elsewhere District Commander Matt Moss released a video update in which he said that while most bikers were riding sensibly, a “tiny minority” were being anti-social on the roads.
The roads patrol said: “Whilst the majority of riders we monitored were riding sensibly, a number caught our attention. Four vehicles were dealt with on Portsdown Hill road for excess speed and one rider on the A27.
“Two vehicles were seized [with] no insurance, the first an e-scooter where ourselves and ambulance had to attend to a rider who sustained suspected broken leg - the e-scooter will be crushed. The second [was] a Fiesta whose driver thought a quick journey he could do without taking out insurance - he can expect six points on his licence. Tickets have been issued for number plate offences mainly bike plates too small and tinted along with altered exhausts. One driver reported for using his handheld mobile phone and one for contravening a red light.”
Portsdown Hill will see average speed cameras installed soon after cash was agreed by Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones.
