Little Princess Trust: Havant teenager Lily-Mae Barnes has her first-ever haircut aged 13
Lily-Mae Barnes had never had a haircut before - and her first one has raised more than £1,700 for two good causes
A Havant teenager has had her first-ever haircut - and raised more than £1,700 for charity while doing so.

Kind-hearted Lily-Mae Barnes has never had a trim before, and in recent years decided to purposely avoid the hairdressers as she plotted a charity event. With her hair reaching 1m long, this summer was the time. She had 55cm cut off, which will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for poorly children who lose their hair.

The proceeds of Lily-Mae’s fundraising - which at time of writing stands at £1,738 - will be divided between the Little Princess Trust, which will receive £700 to cover the cost of making the wig, with the remainder going to Ready Steady Go Hello, a charity that “empowers children, young people, and their families, living with a long-term condition, to realise their full potential by building self-esteem, resilience and ambition”.

Lily-Mae has personal reasons for wanting to donate her hair - her cousin died before the age of 10 from cancer and her brother Declan, 11, has chronic kidney disease.
Lily-Mae previously said: “I decided to give all my childhood hair because people with cancer usually lose their childhood through going to hospital and the illness so I wanted to give my childhood hair for them so they can feel better and bit more confident.”
