Family embark on day of activities

Pompey Games has brought the city together for a day of play, creativity and connection.

The Pompey Games made its debut at the Mountbatten Centre on Saturday, September 12, bringing 500 people together for a fantastic day of games, creativity, movement and community activity.

The family event, which took place between 11am to 3pm, made use of the sports hall, function suite, running track and outdoor areas of the leisure centre.

Rather than traditional information stalls, local organisations joined the event as activity collaborators, giving families the opportunity to discover community groups by playing, making, talking and taking part together.

Across the venue families enjoyed musical games, Stuck in the Mud, egg and spoon races, basketball, cornhole, obstacle activities, doodling and creative challenges, alongside activities provided by community organisations from across Portsmouth.

The Seekers Create Doodle Dial sat at the heart of The Pompey Games, with families encouraged to talk and draw through playful activities and questions.

Clair Martin, founder of Seekers Create, said: “Pompey Games started with a simple idea. What would happen if we created a huge playground where families could play, make things, move around and spend time together without needing to spend any money?

“Pompey Games is about reminding ourselves that playing, creating and connecting is for everybody.”

A major part of the day was the free food up for grabs courtesy of Rapid Relief Team, which meant families were able to take part without breaking the bank.

Alongside Hampshire Flag Company and The Blagrave Trust, supporters and collaborators also included Portsmouth Music Service, Game Over, Foster Portsmouth, Comserv, Spark Community Space, Home-Start, Spinnaker Tower, Shaping Portsmouth and more.
