Excitement as Marwell Zoo welcomes three new faces including a gorgeous red panda

Marwell has welcomed three new faces

Meet Tao, Po and Troy.

Marwell Zoo is celebrating the arrival of a new species – the Chinese water deer – along with a new red panda, all of whom are now sharing a mixed-species habitat near the Giraffe House.

In a recent newsletter update, the Hampshire conservation zoo said Po and Troy have started growing in confidence in their new home, with the innovative shared space “proving a success”.

Tao, the new male red panda, has also been making a fantastic first impression. He joins resident red pandas Tashi and Cherry, who are already firm favourites with visitors. Tashi, who was born at Paradise Wildlife Park in 2022, arrived at Marwell in 2023, with Cherry joining him the following year.

The newsletter said the habitat where Tao, Po and Troy will be residing is “designed to encourage natural behaviours and provide visitors with a fascinating opportunity to observe different species in the same space.”
