Breath-taking transformation continues in front of Southsea Common to create new sea defences - in pictures

Huge strides have been taken in the creation of new sea defences in front of Southsea Common with the promenade, road and cycle lane all now largely in place.

Seating and memorials have all been placed along the new-look promenade, being created in the area between Hovertravel and the Blue Reef, and will link up with the existing promenade at a new community area called Serpentine Square.

The initial works have been carried out by the Southsea Coastal Scheme team to create the new one-way road, as well as the cycle lane and parking bays, with the area set to be open to the public next year. Patches of grass are also visible on the new embankment to the north of the site.
