Finishing touches added to new-look promenade in front of Southsea Common as sea defences project nears completion

The finishing touches are being added to the new-look promenade in front of Southsea Common as the latest phase of the ongoing sea defences project nears completion.

A new two-way cycle lane has been created having had its anti-skid buff surface laid and white lines painted, giving cyclists a dedicated road space along Clarence Esplanade. Line markings to the highway and parking areas have also been painted in the final phase of works which should see the area open to the public soon.

The section between Hovertravel and Blue Reef has been closed since October 2024, with this phase following on from the first phase between Old Portsmouth and Clarence Pier carried out as part of the Southsea Coastal Scheme.

Work is also now underway on the next phase next to South Parade Pier.
