Rain delays the timescale for the completion of the sea defences in Ports Creek - new date

Rainy weather has delayed the timescale for the completion of the sea defences in Ports Creek.

The wet weather has led to conditions which are not ideal for building embankments which means the works will not be finished by the end of this year as originally planned and will now be finished in the New Year.

“Even with additional weekend working, we will not be able to complete in time for Christmas,” an update from the project team said. “Our revised forecast is now for completion in mid-January 2026.

“We really appreciate your patience and understanding – thank you for bearing with us just a little longer.”

Thanks to the mild October temperatures and wet weather, the first areas of hydroseeded embankment have also started to sprout and are turning green, and the amphibious excavator is making steady progress on the moat water quality improvement works with the first areas carefully dredged.
