Key walking and cycling route closed in Milton while a new gravel path is laid

A key walking and cycling route has been closed in Milton while a new gravel path is laid.

The coastal path alongside Milton Common will be closed until the end of May as the North Portsea Coastal Scheme lay a Breedon gravel along the area as the next phase of the sea defence works in the area.

Access to The People’s Memorial is restricted while the works are carried out, with access only granted to those maintaining the area during the six-week closure.

“The path is being improved with a more durable surface to make it safer to use once reopened,” a spokesperson for the Coastal Scheme said. “The path will be closed until the end of May, weather permitting.

“There are signed diversion routes are in place and available on site.”

The update on the footpath follows the earlier works to create sea defences and an improved footpath along Eastern Road and Milton which was previously carried out and was completed in September 2024.
