Canoe Lake dazzles after clear up of ugly algae from popular Southsea spot
Huge algae blooms in the lake have been cleared
Canoe Lake is dazzling again after the second phase of a clear up operation to remove huge blooms of algae.
Huge algae blooms have covered much of the lake’s surface over the past two months causing local concern.

But earlier this month a specialist craft to cut and scoop up all of the algae began the task of clearing it up.
After a break of a couple of weeks the Harbour Clean team has returned today (July 30) to complete the works, with Canoe Lake now looking almost completely cleared.
As previously reported by The News, algae thrive in hot, sunny conditions because higher water temperatures speed up metabolic processes inside algae cells, while increased sunlight boosts photosynthesis.
