An RNLI social media statement said the Atlantic 85 Norma T “was tasked to a vessel taking on water near the submarine barrier off Southsea seafront, with two people on board”.

“On arrival, the lifeboat crew quickly set to work using the salvage pump to remove the water from the vessel,” they added. “Once the situation was under control, the vessel was taken in tow by Sea Start towards Southsea Marina, with Norma T escorting throughout the passage to ensure the safety of those on board.”

Volunteer crews returned to the station in Eastney at 11am. The organisation added: “A great team effort by all involved, helping to keep those on the water safe.”
