Person stuck in mud saved by lifteboat crews in Eastney as wind and tide pushed them into mudbank

Emergency crews were ‘quickly deployed’

Vigilant lifeboat crews saved a person who got stuck in the mud near Eastney lake.

Personnel from Portsmouth Lifeboat Station were tasked to deploy quickly to rescue the individual, as the wind and tide was pushing them further into the bank. Their tender has become grounded.

The incident took place on April 30 at roughly 5.47pm. A Portsmouth Lifeboat Station social media statement said: “With wind and tide pushing them further onto the mudbank, they had been trying to reach shore for over an hour.

“We launched quickly, located the casualty, and assisted them out of the mud to bring them safely onboard along with their tender. They were cold but in good spirits and were handed over to Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team on return to shore.”

The lifeboat crews were alerted to a separate incident at 6.20pm. Personnel rushed to Hayling Island seafront after receiving reports of a kite surfer running into difficulty, and a second person possibly in the water. RNLI crews at Hayling Island rescued the kite surfer, with no one else unaccounted for.
