Fire breaks out at Sainsbury's on Hayling Island
Firefighters were called to deal with a fire at a branch of Sainsbury’s
Firefighters were called to a supermarket after a fire broke out.
Crews from Hayling Island, Havant, Cosham and Southsea were called to Sainsbury’s in Mengham Road on Hayling at about 6.30pm on Thursday.
The shop was evacuated as firefighters arrived to find a small fire in an electrical room.
The fire service said they needed to wear breathing apparatus to tackle the fire, and used a hose to put it out before ventilating the building. The electrical supply was isolated before the incident was handed back to Sainsbury’s staff, and the fire service left at about 9.30pm.
The shop was closed after the incident yesterday but is open today. Sainsbury’s has said that there was no damage and that nobody was injured.
A Sainsbury's spokesperson said: “Our Hayling Island store was temporarily closed for a couple of hours due to an incident. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused and the store is open as usual.”
