Ducklings rescued by Cosham firefighters after falling down M27 motorway drain

Two ducklings were rescued after falling down a motorway drain.

Fighters from Cosham were deployed to save the fuzzy pair just after 11am this morning (March 30).

The westbound carriageway of the M27 between junctions 9 and 10 were briefly closed. Emergency personnel accessed the drain on the central reservation.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) said the crew had to respond “quack-ly” in order to save the waterfowl.

They said: “The ducklings were lifted safely from the drain and passed into the care of an RSPCA officer, who reunited the pair with their mother on the hard shoulder.

“Having done a wing-credible job, the crew left the scene and returned to station at around midday.”
