No trains serving Cosham Railway Station 'until further notice' with platform evacuated due to fire

Trains will not stopping at Cosham Railway Station due to a nearby fire.

The platform has been evacuated as firefighters continue to tackle a flat blaze in Portsmouth Road this evening (June 20). Southern Rail said the problem is expected to last into the evening.

A statement said: “A fire on a property near the railway at Cosham means all lines are disrupted. Southern services are currently unable to call at Cosham. As a result, trains will be revised to not call at this station.”

Southern Western Railway said: A fire next to the track is affecting the railway at Cosham. Trains will be suspended because of this problem. Cosham will not be served.

“At this time, we estimate that disruption to our services will end at 6.30pm. We will let you know if this changes or when we have more information.”

Tickets are being accepted on alternative forms of public transport. SWR said ‘until further notice’, trains from London Waterloo to Portsmouth, and Portsmouth to Southampton Central, will not call at Cosham.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) issued a social media statement this afternoon, warning people to stay clear from the scene. The force said: “We are tackling a fire on Portsmouth Road, Cosham.

“We're asking people to avoid the area due to smoke caused by the fire. For safety, Cosham railway station platform has been evacuated due to the smoke. Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed.”

Clarifying the service’s involvement, a spokesperson added: “We were called to a fire in a flat on Portsmouth Road, Cosham at 3.20pm this afternoon. Crews from Cosham, Fareham, Havant, Hightown, Horndean, Portchester and Southsea are in attendance.

“We’re asking residents to avoid the area due to smoke, which is also impacting the platform at Cosham railway station.”
