‘Disused’ land in Fareham to be bought by council to build new houses
A council has bought “largely disused” land to build 13 new homes.
Fareham Borough Council has now purchased the space in Wynton Way, which is near Henry Cort School, for £150,000 after the plan was approved in September 2025.
The land is by a largely disused garage block and an access road from Wynton Way, both of which are already owned by the council. The council said the new homes are expected to be affordable.

Speaking at the executive council meeting on March 23, council leader Simon Martin said: “I am pleased to say that as of today, the council has secured ownership of a parcel of land just off of Wynton Way. This further land will enable us to provide around 12 or 13 new council homes on this brownfield site.
“It further reaffirms our commitment to providing more affordable homes in areas of need. I am delighted that we are continuing to demonstrate our success in developing and building council houses, while many local authorities have not been able to, or don’t.”

Residents will be consulted on the proposals once draft plans are prepared, and before the planning application is formally submitted.
Access for Hillson Drive residents with existing rear access will be maintained, and the Kershaw Centre will continue to operate as normal.
A council spokesperson said: “Fareham Borough Council has recently purchased land at Wynton Way, following Executive approval of the acquisition in September 2025. The newly purchased land sits alongside a largely disused garage block and the access road from Wynton Way.
“Together, these areas form Housing Allocation Policy HA22 in the Fareham Local Plan 2037, which identifies the site for an indicative 13 homes.”
