'Underwater hazard' at HMNB Portsmouth as pole falls from Royal Navy warship 'protruding from seabed'
A scaffolding pole has fallen from a Royal Navy warship and created a hazard at HMNB Portsmouth.
Mariners were issued a warning alert from the King’s Harbour Master (KHM) this morning (February 26). The incident took place at 2 Basin, with anyone operating in the area told to remain vigilant.
In a ‘underwater hazard’ alert issued to the public, the KHM said: “A steel 6ft scaffolding pole has been lost overboard off the midship position of the minor warship berthed at 6BII in 2 Basin HM Naval Base Portsmouth and may be protruding from the seabed.
“Mariners operating within 2 Basin are advised not to manoeuvre in this location within the basin.”
The Royal Navy and KHM have been approached for further details.
