Stark warning issued to drone pilots as HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Dauntless return to Portsmouth
A stark warning has been issued to drone pilots warning them not to get too close to HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Dauntless as they return to Portsmouth today.
The Ministry of Defence Police has issued a reminder that restrictions are in place to ensure safety and security - with an exclusion zone of 50 metres.
The MoD Police said: “The UK Carrier Strike Group, including HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Dauntless, will be returning to HMNB Portsmouth next week after an eight-month deployment – a momentous occasion as our carrier comes home.
“As we welcome these magnificent ships back, we ask everyone to be mindful of security and safety around the naval base.
“Many people will be making the trip to Portsmouth to photograph the Carrier Strike Group's return. We are reminding anyone with a drone not to fly it in the vicinity of Portsmouth Naval Base.
“A Restricted Area Temporary (RAT) will be in place, creating an exclusion zone of 50 metres around HMS Prince of Wales and the dockyard wall.

“Why does this matter?
- To protect maritime safety and security
- To ensure the safety of Royal Navy personnel, visitors, and security staff
- To safeguard this significant naval operation
- So family and friends can welcome their loved ones home
“Specially trained officers will be monitoring the area and may deactivate drones that breach these restrictions - failure to comply with CAA regulations could result in your drone being seized or prosecution.
