Royal Navy sailor to run gruelling London Marathon to honour personnel 'resilience and sacrifices'
Vital funds will be raised for the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity by completing the gruelling marathon
A dedicated Royal Navy sailor is set to run the London Marathon in honour of the ‘resilience and sacrifices’ of personnel.
Able Seaman Harry Burrows, of Rowlands Castle, will be entering the world-famous 26.2 mile race through the capital on April 26. He’ll be pushing his endurance to the limit in order to raise money for a cause close to his heart - the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

While he expects the final miles to be physically and mentally demanding, Harry is looking forward to the atmosphere on race day, with friends and family cheering him on. “Crossing the finish line and knowing I’ve completed this challenge for RNRMC will be an unforgettable moment.” he said.
“As someone currently serving in the Royal Navy, I see first-hand the dedication, resilience, and sacrifices that service personnel make every day. “RNRMC provides vital support to those who serve and their families, improving wellbeing, recovery, and quality of life. Knowing my fundraising could directly benefit members of the Armed Forces community makes this challenge even more meaningful.”
As well as throwing himself into training, Harry enjoys mountaineering, kayaking, skiing, and is an avid Formula 1 fan. Running has become another way for him to push himself both physically and mentally, reflecting the same determination he applies in service.
Harry is encouraging anyone thinking of taking on a similar challenge be brave enough to start. ”Go for it,” he added. “It’s tough but incredibly rewarding. You’ll learn so much about yourself and know that every step you take is helping others. The RNRMC represents constant support, reassurance, and opportunity for our Armed Forces community.”
The charity supports serving members of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, and Royal Fleet Auxiliary, as well as families and veterans. It provides projects and facilities to boost morale in the services and lend a helping hand to personnel.
