MoD: "Pivotal" £18m contract signed to maintain Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship capability - how
A multi-million contract has been signed to boost the capability of Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships.
The Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) procurement wing, Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), has awarded an £18m deal to BMT. The maritime technical consulting firm will be working on the contract over a four-year period.

As reported in the UK Defence Journal, the company will provide technical documentation services to the naval forces’ surface ships and submarines. The journal said this will play a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness. The contract falls under the Aurora Engineering Partnership, which includes defence firms such as QinetiQ and AtkinsRéalis.
The journal said managing technical documentation ensures “the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of complex maritime systems throughout their lifecycle” - helping Royal Navy and RFA fleets remain operational and mission-ready. Toby Drywood, sales account manager at BMT for UK ships, said: “We are incredibly proud to lead this pivotal contract.
“BMT’s collaborative approach, coupled with our long-standing expertise in technical documentation, places us in a strong position to deliver value-driven, high-quality solutions.” BMT carried out a successful documentation project in 2019. The UK Defence Journal said this improved Royal Navy operational capability, with the new deal consolidating multiple existing contract. The new agreement will also support the Royal Navy’s ‘Digital Twin’ and ‘Support Information Knowledge Management (S-IKM)’ systems, which helps facilitate maintenance and support onshore and sea operations.
