A Remembrance service took place at the Fareham base this morning. It was a solemn commemoration, with wreaths being laid at the memorial.
Officers and Ratings of the Naval Service who gave their lives during the First and Second World Wars were honoured, as well as in subsequent armed conflicts. During the service, Base Warrant Officer, Warrant Officer Chris Lindop read aloud the names of Naval personnel who have lost their lives in the past year.
Captain Tim Davey, Commanding Officer of HMS Collingwood, led the tributes by laying a wreath on behalf of the establishment. Additional wreaths were laid by the HMS Collingwood Officers’ Association, and children from the Woodentots Nursery placed their own in a touching gesture of remembrance.
Speaking at the service, Capt Davey said: “It is important that we take time to remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. As we come together today, we take the time to pause and reflect, and also to remember all of those in the Naval Service and across defence who have sadly lost their lives more recently.”
Here are a selection of pictures from the commemoration.
