Guests for this evening’s D-Day commemorations on Southsea Common have began to arrive in what is expected to be another fantastic event.

Ticketholders and VIPs have been making their way to the event and taking their seats ahead of the event scheduled to start at around 8.30pm.

Stunning lighting displays are planned in conjunctions with the commemorations at the Bayeux cemetery in France. At the cemetery across the English Channel, each of the 4,600 headstones of those that fell will be individually illuminated.

Scottish folk singer Julie Fowlis will be performing The Parting Glass, with other songs planned by Jack Savoretti, and British baritone and composer Roderick Williams. Actor Katherine Parkinson will read a moving and poignant letter about a man buried in Bayeux.
