The brand new Royal Marines Experience will open its doors in July 2026, it has now been confirmed.

The former Action Stations inside Boathouse Number 6 at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is being transformed into the facility which will replace for former Royal Marines Museum in Eastney, which closed in 2017.

Opening in July 2026, the Royal Marines Experience is set to transform the historic Boathouse 6 in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard into a dynamic national centre, celebrating the service and history of the Royal Marines.

The new museum has said that visitors will embark on an immersive, multimedia journey through 400 years of Royal Marines history, from 1664 to today. It is expected to feature interactive galleries and Commando challenges to reveal the Corps’ ethos, operations, and the physical and mental demands of service.

Boathouse 6 will also house a special exhibition gallery and a Royal Marines commando-themed Laser Quest arena, plunging players into a hi-tech battle inspired by the Royal Marines. The cinema is also set to return.

Entrance to the Experience will be included in the annual Portsmouth Historic Dockyard ticket (Adults £41, Children £31 (3-15yrs), Under 3's go free), with Laser Quest only open weekends and Hampshire school holidays.
