The award, set up by a Victorian stockbroker of the same name, celebrates efficiency and naval excellence.

Jordan only joined the Royal Navy in July 2019 and lists building computers, reading and meeting new people amongst his hobbies.

His Herbert Lott Award citation reads: ‘ET Dalglish has greatly impressed instructors throughout his course, completing all the work to a very high standard. It is evident that he has studied previously at a high level. In areas that were new to him he used his research and notes to develop his knowledge further. In a number of practical activities, he was highly commended for his enthusiasm and knowledge by the instructors.

‘Consistently top of his class with a great understanding and enthusiasm, he regularly demonstrated his leadership skills by readily assisting other members of the class.’

Speaking of the future Jordan, who is now set to join HMS Duncan’s crew, said: ‘I’m grateful for the opportunities the Royal Navy will give me which I’ll gladly accept.’
