"Crucial" Crowdfunder launched to create expand Pitt St. Skate Park with new multi-functional space

Health and fitness are the driving forces behind a Crowdfunder campaign which aims to create a multi-functional space at an indoor skatepark in the city.

Launching in December 2022, the Undercover Skatepark Project saw the creation of a one-of-a-kind indoor skatepark which currently resides in the former Sainsbury’s, in Commercial Road.

The skatepark, which offers lessons and roller disco events, opened after husband and wife duo, Jenna and Jacob Skinner, felt the city would benefit from an indoor space for wheeled sports.

But the founders have now launched a Crowdfunder to raise £20,000 to fund Pitt St.udios - a purpose-built, multi-functional space at the skating site.

Jenna said: "We believe in encouraging an active lifestyle, and Pitt St.udios is our commitment to making sport, fitness, and movement accessible to everyone in our community.

The repurposed space will be designed to be highly adaptable and will be available for community hire for local yoga and fitness classes, as well as birthday parties.

The couple are hoping that by reaching their target, they will receive match funding by Sport England.

In a Crowdfunder video, Jenna added: “Not only that but we need this pot of money to help us upgrade, fix and maintain the skate park and the surrounding areas within the building to make sure this space continues to be safe.”

The funds raised will be divided into two to create the new space whilst also making crucial restorations to the existing site including ramp, door and floor repairs, safety barrier maintenance and painting.
