Leigh Park woman must pay £4,235 after toys, carpet and plastic found dumped after house move

A WOMAN who paid someone to clear away rubbish when moving house has been ordered to pay £4,000 after the waste was fly-tipped.

Chantelle Watts moved to her home in Beaulieu Avenue, Leigh Park, and got rid of toys, plastic, and carpeting among other items.

But all of these were found dumped. Winchester City Council officers found an election polling card, and letters from Guinness Partnership, Southampton magistrates and TV Licensing.

This led officers to Watts, who was written to asking who had dumped the waste.

Magistrates found her guilty in her absence of failing to take all reasonable measures to prevent fly-tipping. The waste was found on February 11 last year.

Sentencing, magistrates said her actions were reckless not deliberate.

Watts must pay a £1,760 fine, £385 compensation, and £2,090.52 prosecution costs - totalling £4,235.52.

Watts must pay the full amount by August 3.
