Woman beater jailed after "shocking and abhorrent" domestic abuse and coercive controlling behaviour
A Waterlooville man has been jailed for 38 months for the “horrendous” abuse of a woman he was in a relationship with.
Appearing at the same court at the end of February he was sentenced to three years and two months in jail with police praising the victims’ strength and bravery in coming forward.
The court heard how Chandler used coercive, threatening and violent behaviour to control all aspects of the victim’s life between June 23, 2024 and June 30, 2025. He intentionally strangled her on March 29, 2025, and assaulted her throughout their time together including strangling her, grabbing her head, slapping her, pulling her hair, and restraining her.
He controlled the use of her phone, how long she could go out for, what she could wear and buy, and prevented her from speaking to other men. Chandler also threatened to damage her and her families properties and was demeaning to her in front of other men, including telling her to undergo breast surgery to alter her appearance.
He also controlled the way the victim ran her business, forcing her to change its name, signs and appearance, as well as preventing the business from having male customers.

Detective Constable Andrew Mason of the Havant and Waterlooville Criminal Investigations Department said: “To see Chandler sentenced to over three years imprisonment is a result I am happy with, as he deserves to be behind bars for the physical, emotional, mental and financial abuse he has put the victim through in this case.
“The lengths to which Chandler went to control the victim in all aspects of her life is both shocking and abhorrent. His behaviour has caused serious alarm and distress to the victim, which has understandably had a substantial adverse effect on her.
“The physical violence that the victim has endured at his hands, including being subjected on multiple occasions to being strangled, is horrendous, and a real testament to how dangerous a man Chandler is.
“I would like to commend the victim for her strength and bravery throughout the investigation and court process, and thank her for her continued support in helping us see Chandler be put behind bars. We could not have achieved this result without her courage and determination to see justice be done.”
Chandler pleaded not guilty to the offences and following an eight-day trial a jury found him guilty on all counts on December 8, 2025. He was subsequently sentenced on February 20, 2026.
