Unsupervised learner driver pulled over after driving the wrong way down Gosport street

An unsupervised learner driver was pulled over after officers spotted them driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

The incident happened on Thorngate Way on Wednesday, October 12, with a family member was to pick up the car after it was discovered the driver only had a provisional licence. However, when the family member arrived they only possessed a driving licence qualifying them to drive an automatic car so the car was taken away.

A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: “The driver of the car pictured drove the wrong way along Thorngate Way, this was seen by an officer heading out on an enquiry. Whilst the direction of this road has changed relatively recently there is plenty of signage so it should not have happened.

“The driver was spoken to and the L plates on the car were noted. The driver did not have anyone supervising them so they were in breach of the requirements to drive and as such there would be no insurance in place.

“Arrangements were made for the car to be collected by a family member but when they arrived it transpired that they only had a licence to cover them for automatic cars. As such the car was seized and the driver was reported for a number of traffic offences, they will be required to go to court in due course.”
